Synopsis
Robert Smithson's Spiral Jetty extends 1,500 feet into the Great Salt Lake in Utah. Constructed in 1970, this earthwork features a spiral shape made from rocks, earth, salt, and red algae. Filmmaker James Benning visited the site 16 times between May 15, 2005, and January 14, 2007. Each visit captures the evolving environment surrounding the Jetty. The film reflects on Smithson's impact on contemporary art and the connection between art and nature.
