Synopsis

Sirkka-Liisa Konttinen moved to Byker in 1969 as a founding member of the Amber collective. Her photographs document the terraced community that faced demolition for the Byker Wall. The film reconstructs the lost contexts of this working-class neighborhood, celebrating its culture and daily life. Konttinen lived in Byker until 1976, when her own flat was demolished. Byker is one of Amber's early photo films, alongside Keeping Time and others based on Konttinen's work.
