Bringing Midwifery Back to Black Mothers

Synopsis

In the United States, Black women experience maternal mortality rates more than double those of white women, contributing to the highest maternal mortality rate among wealthy nations. Midwives, who specialize in prenatal, childbirth, and postpartum care, are increasingly collaborating with obstetricians to address these disparities. By employing traditional skills and modern practices, midwives aim to improve health outcomes for Black mothers. This initiative highlights the critical role of midwifery in bridging the gap in maternal healthcare disparities.
