Synopsis
In 1995, during a study abroad program in Petersburg Russia, Burton recounts his experiences with the Russian Mafia. The program assures students that they have paid off the Mafia for their safety. Burton and his classmates are assigned two young gangsters, known as banditti in Russian, to protect them. Eager to connect, Burton approaches the gangsters with a bottle of vodka and introduces himself by saying, 'I am the machine.' This phrase earns him their laughter and acceptance. Throughout the trip, the Mafia members take charge, leading Burton on adventures, including a pool hall scam and stealing a boat. During an overnight train trip to Moscow, Burton learns that he must travel with different gangsters due to the Mafia's control over the train routes. His summer in Russia becomes a thrilling tale of camaraderie and mischief with the Mafia.
