Synopsis

Gunārs Astra stood trial in 1983 before the Latvian SSR, where he declared, “I believe this time will fade like an evil nightmare.” Astra spent two decades in Soviet prisons due to his anti-government beliefs. His life ended tragically when he was poisoned on a train to Saint Petersburg, dying a week later. Astra's death became a symbol of the struggle for Latvia's independence, paralleling the experiences of figures like Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn and Václav Havel.
