Anne Carson: Reading from Nox

Synopsis

Anne Carson's "Nox" serves as an epitaph for her brother, who died in Copenhagen after a life of estrangement. Through a blend of diary notes, letters, and photographs, Carson constructs a poignant dialogue with Roman poet Catullus, who also memorialized his brother. In this reading, Carson introduces "Nox" and recites Catullus' poem 101 in Latin, while Danish poet Pejk Malinovski presents excerpts from the Danish translation. "Nox," meaning 'night' in Latin, is celebrated as one of Carson's most significant works.
