White Cube

Synopsis

Renzo Martens constructs a white cube gallery within a Congolese palm oil plantation, challenging traditional notions of art. The film follows former plantation workers who create sculptures that are later transformed into chocolate and exhibited in New York. With profits from these exhibitions, the workers, who earn less than a dollar a day, aim to reclaim their land. The project critiques the sponsorship of Western museums by corporations like Unilever and questions the ethics of art in relation to colonialism and exploitation.
