Synopsis

Dajun and Xiaomei live with their father and grandfather in a rural setting after their mother moves to Shanghai for work. The absence of a maternal figure allows the siblings more freedom to play, yet they experience a noticeable lack of nurturing. Their grandfather, a frugal man, provides for them alongside the farm animals that populate their home. As Xiaomei begins her childhood, the influence of local craftsmen also shapes her early experiences.
