In Beijing, 300 lesbians gathered for the Fourth World Conference on Women in 1995. They established the first lesbian tent at a United Nations NGO Forum. The documentary follows Chinese activists, known as lalas, as they confront a legacy of shame. It then shifts to current activism, featuring young feminist lalas who protest sexism and homophobia through demonstrations, including actions on subways.
