Synopsis

A former professor arrives in Genoa, drawn to the icy winter sea. He finds himself at the ancient abbey of Boschetto, a refuge for the homeless. While waiting for the warden, he wanders the cloisters, reflecting on his life and the nature of fate. There, he meets various residents, including a carabiniere, a countess, a railroader, and a ship's deckhand. Each shares their story, revealing a diverse humanity. By the end, he leaves the abbey with a renewed sense of purpose.
