Vakhim, a four-year-old boy, moves from Cambodia to Italy in 2008. He struggles to adapt to his new environment while speaking only Khmer. His older sister, Maklin, lives in Italy and connects him to his past. A letter from Vakhim's birth mother prompts his adoptive parents, Francesca and Simone, to seek her out. Their search raises issues of identity and family ties across countries.
