Ukraine War: Pardoned Russian convicts leave trail of violence in their hometowns

Synopsis

On the night of August 1st, two men break into a house in Ukraine, murdering owner Archon Tereshenka and his 71-year-old father, Vladimir. After setting the house on fire, the men stab and kill four more people nearby. Irina, the sister of one of the suspects, learns of the tragedy when Tereshenka's children, aged 9 and 12, escape and raise the alarm. The suspects include Igor Safonov, who recently returned from fighting in Ukraine after being recruited from prison by the Russian military. This practice, initiated by the late Wagner boss Yevgeni Prigozhin, raises concerns about the psychological state of these ex-convicts. Alexandra, Igor's sister, believes he should have received more support after his release. Both men are now in custody, awaiting trial, as the community grapples with the impact of returning soldiers and ex-convicts on their social fabric.
