Synopsis
Levantkade, a quay in Amsterdam's old dock area, served as a refuge for 'urban nomads' in the late 1980s. These individuals, including drop-outs and the homeless, inhabited this no-man's-land until police intervention cleared the area for redevelopment. The film intersperses documentary footage of these residents, referred to as 'urban indians,' with archival material from 1926 that documents the quay's history as a gateway for Eastern European emigrants heading to South America.
