The Gobi Desert holds remnants of former labor camps where thousands of political prisoners faced starvation during the campaign against 'rightist elements' in the early 1950s. Wang Bing's "Traces," filmed in 2005 on 35mm black and white film, captures the silent echoes of this history. The film reveals bones, clothing, and footprints scattered across the desolate terrain. Premiering in 2014 at the Centre Pompidou, it was later exhibited at Galerie Chantal Crousel in 2018.
