Synopsis
James Stewart introduces Thunderbolt, a documentary about the American Twelfth Air Force's operations in World War II. The film features aerial combat footage shot by the 12th Combat Camera Unit. It follows a P-47 Thunderbolt squadron during a mission in northern Italy. The footage includes scenes from a May 1, 1944, attack on a railroad tunnel at Rignano sull'Arno. Lt. Col. Gilbert O. Wymond Jr. appears prominently as he flies his damaged P-47. Monogram Pictures released the film in 1947.
