Synopsis
In Cape Breton, Buddhist monks and nuns engage in annual rituals that connect them with local French-speaking fishermen. Each year, the monks purchase the fishermen's final lobster catch to release the lobsters back into the sea, reflecting their belief in reincarnation and the cycle of life. Similarly, fishermen practice sustainability by returning egg-bearing female lobsters to the water, ensuring future generations can fish. Directed by Lina Verchery, "The Trap" explores themes of mutual respect and the shared values of these seemingly disparate communities.
