The Temple is a documentary. Teacher Hou wipes the bulletin board in the 2006 dormitory of Duancun Middle School, located in Pingyao County. The school, originally an ancient temple from the Ming Dynasty, housed over 150 students who merged with two other high schools in 2011. As graduation approaches, students spend their days eating, chatting, and playing cards, contemplating their uncertain futures. The playground is overgrown, while the gatekeeper Laomi and his family continue to live in the teaching building.
