PFC LaVena Lynn Johnson is found dead on a military base in Iraq, shot in the head. The Army rules her death a suicide, but information obtained through the Freedom of Information Act raises doubts about this conclusion. Since the start of the Second Gulf War, over ninety-four women in the military have died in Afghanistan or during Operation Iraqi Freedom, with twenty deaths classified as suspicious. "The Silent Truth" follows the Johnson family's pursuit of justice for their daughter.
