What is The Roots about?
The Roots is a documentary. Naoshi, a 79-year-old woodcutter and carpenter from the Kesen district of Iwate Prefecture, faces the aftermath of the March 2011 tsunami. While the floodwaters reached the second floor of his home without damaging the wooden beams, the disaster claimed the life of his son. Despite this loss, Naoshi is resolute in his decision to rebuild his house on the same site. He aims to honor his son's memory and continue living in the place where he was born.
