Synopsis
Giuseppe Orefici, an Italian archaeologist, leads a team on Easter Island, known as Rapa Nui. They investigate the origins of the Rapa Nui people, who arrived on the island 1,500 years ago. The expedition focuses on excavating an ahu, an open-air temple central to the island's social life. The film outlines how initial friendly encounters with Dutch explorers in 1772 led to devastation, including the capture of islanders for slave trade in 1862. Today, local residents work with scientists to recover their cultural history.
