Synopsis
In January 1946, a trial took place in Kyiv against 15 German Nazis accused of committing atrocities in Ukraine during World War II. Known as case No. 1679, the proceedings addressed crimes later classified as “crimes against humanity.” Sergei Loznitsa uses previously unseen archive footage to present testimonies from survivors of Auschwitz and Babi Yar, alongside statements from the defendants. The film, produced by Atoms & Void and the Babyn Yar Holocaust Memorial Center, reflects on the nature of justice in the aftermath of war.
