Synopsis

Sven-Erik Stöckel, one of the original builders of the Solitary Road, reflects on the unfinished 20 km stretch that was meant to connect Kiruna, Sweden, to Altavatn, Norway. Constructed in 1955, the road remains incomplete due to military concerns, impacting five small villages where Sami people and Finnish farmers live. Stöckel writes a letter to Kiruna's politicians, urging them to finish the road to prevent locals from risking their lives crossing Torneträsk lake. The film also addresses the legacy of children born from interactions between road workers and local girls.
