In 1962, Danny Lyon met John Lewis in Cairo, Illinois, marking the beginning of a significant friendship during a critical period in American civil rights history. Lyon served as the staff photographer for the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), capturing hundreds of black-and-white images that document the movement. The film intertwines these photographs with archival audio recordings of speeches and conversations featuring Lewis, Julian Bond, and Dotty Zellner, alongside freedom songs recorded in Atlanta during the 1960s.
