Synopsis
In the outskirts of Moscow, massive concrete apartment blocks dominate the skyline, remnants of the Soviet Era. Sleeping District captures static shots of these structures alongside intimate views of private apartments. The film intersperses these visuals with translated observations and memories from residents, presented in broken English. Through personal narratives and tangible objects, it reflects on collective memory, family ties, and the lingering effects of a fallen political ideology. The 12-minute documentary was shot on 16mm film in 2014.
