Shame is a documentary. Mukhtaran Mai lived in a small village in Pakistan when her life changed dramatically. After her younger brother's involvement with a girl from a neighboring village led to violent retribution from tribal leaders, Mukhtaran was gang raped. In a society where many women face immense pressure to commit suicide after such assaults, she chose to report the crime to the police. Mukhtaran demanded justice for herself and others, including a holy man implicated in the attack.
