In 1969, a country doctor turned naval pioneer initiated the Sealab project off the northern California coast. This ambitious endeavor resulted in a 300-ton pressurized underwater habitat designed for divers to live and work on the ocean floor. Equipped with science labs and living quarters, Sealab allowed teams to conduct research for extended periods. During the Space Race, the project tested human endurance and changed the approach to ocean exploration.
