In 1963, Piero Paolo Pasolini traveled to Palestine with a newsreel photographer and a Catholic priest to scout locations for his biblical film, The Gospel According to Matthew. Edited for potential funders, Seeking Locations in Palestine features Pasolini's semi-improvised commentary as he reflects on the teachings of Christ while expressing disappointment with the modernity of Israel and the plight of the Palestinian people. Ultimately, The Gospel According to Matthew was filmed in Southern Italy, with some locations later used by Mel Gibson for The Passion of the Christ.
