Synopsis

The documentary highlights the stark differences between slavery in Africa and Atlantic slavery, emphasizing that Europeans established a system based on racial distinctions. It details the Middle Passage, which involved the forced removal of approximately 125 million people from Africa. The journey consists of three legs: from Europe to Africa, the Middle Passage from Africa to America, and the return from America to Europe. The Middle Passage lasts between 2 to 3 months, during which enslaved African men and women are confined in cramped, inhumane conditions. Men are shackled and packed closely together, often in extreme heat, leading to a traumatic experience marked by death and despair.
