Revisiting Solaris

Synopsis

Chris Kelvin, an astronaut, encounters a woman who resembles his deceased wife. This narrative, rooted in Stanislaw Lem’s novel, was previously adapted into a film by Andrei Tarkovsky. Deimantas Narkevičius argues that Tarkovsky did not fully address the effects of electronic media on human relationships and memory as Lem did. The documentary features actor Donatas Banionis reprising his role as Kelvin, forty years after Tarkovsky's adaptation. Narkevičius incorporates new footage and photographs from 1905 by Mykolojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis to visualize the world of Solaris.
