Barbara Sonneborn visits the Vietnamese countryside to confront the death of her husband, killed during the Vietnam War. Accompanied by translator Xuan Ngoc Nguyen, also a war widow, Sonneborn seeks to understand their shared losses. The film includes interviews with Vietnamese and American widows. It presents their stories of grief and survival in the aftermath of conflict. Produced over ten years, "Regret to Inform" won a Peabody Award in 2000 after airing on PBS' POV.
