Synopsis
Ilya Kabakov reflects on his life and art in Poor Folk. He discusses the influence of his mother’s tragic life on his work. Alongside his wife Emilia, he talks about Soviet underground art and the emergence of Moscow Conceptualism. The couple emigrated to the USA after years of limited exhibition opportunities in the Soviet Union. Today, their art is featured in major museums, including MoMA in New York and the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris.
