Synopsis

Aldikarb, commonly known as Chinese rat poison, has become a troubling method of suicide in South Africa, particularly among individuals facing HIV diagnoses. This agricultural poison, while effective for pest control, poses significant risks to human health and has led to numerous hospital admissions since 1994. The widespread availability of Aldikarb from street vendors raises concerns about its misuse, as it is increasingly viewed as a means to escape suffering rather than simply a tool for eliminating rodents.
