Synopsis

Wang Zhengcheng learned pottery in Penyao Village, Henan Province, at the age of 13. He aspires to become a master craftsman like his grandfather. The village is known for its black pottery, which resembles the ancient Longshan culture's creations from 2000 BC. Black pottery basins and jars are essential to daily life in Penyao. This 48-minute documentary, a finalist at the 1991 Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival, captures the artistry and tradition of this enduring craft.
