"Peace Officer" follows Lawrence as he examines this incident and other police-related fatalities in his community. The film traces the origins of SWAT teams in the United States, beginning with the 1965 Watts riots, and addresses the growing militarization of police forces and its effects on families and neighborhoods.
Peace Officer won the 2015 Documentary Feature Competition Grand Jury award at the South by Southwest Film Festival.
William 'Dub' Lawrence, a retired police officer and founder of Davis County, Utah's SWAT team, is the central figure in the documentary.
Lawrence was motivated to investigate police killings after the SWAT team he founded killed his son-in-law, Brian Wood, during a 2008 standoff.
