Synopsis

Doctor İsmail Beşikçi graduated from the Faculty of Political Sciences and completed his PhD in sociology at Erzurum University. During his research, he found that “Kurds exist, there is a Kurdish problem.” His findings led to opposition against official state narratives. Beşikçi faced imprisonment for a total of 17 years over multiple periods due to his advocacy. His work challenges the denial of Kurdish identity in Turkey and the consequences of his activism.
