Synopsis

An elderly woman in a fishing village in Japan interacts with a displaced spirit. The spirit wanders through the community, encountering various ancient souls. They recount stories of daily life, loss, and tragedy. The woman’s distracted demeanor prompts reflections on happiness. Each encounter offers insight into the lives of the peasant community. Directed by Aleksandr Sokurov, the film runs for 45 minutes. It combines Russian and Japanese languages and examines personal narratives from a feudal-era setting.
