Synopsis

An old farmer stands in a field, contemplating the meaning of dreams amid the backdrop of modern China. "Once Upon a Time Proletarian" features twelve individuals, including a middle-aged waitress, a car washer, and a factory owner, each sharing their perspectives on aspirations and reality. The film contrasts their narratives with stark black-and-white imagery of children, who risk their futures as gunfire echoes in the distance. Through these voices, the documentary presents a snapshot of contemporary life in China.
