Synopsis
In Vancouver's Downtown Eastside, First Nations gangs exert significant influence over Indigenous youth, leading to a complex interplay of crime and community resilience. Members of the Beat Enforcement Team engage with local youth to address the harsh realities of drug use and street life. Concurrently, rookie officer Bryan Nykon undergoes rigorous training to prepare for the challenges of urban policing. Directed by Matthew Shewchuk and Tara Shortt, "Northern Exposure" provides a critical examination of gang culture and its impact on Indigenous communities in Canada.
