In 'Nini', the story follows Gabriele Boccalatte and Ninì Pietrasanta, who meet in the summer of 1932 on Monte Bianco. Their relationship develops alongside their climbing adventures, which span from 1932 to 1936. The couple not only climbs some of the toughest alpine routes but also documents their experiences through journals and photographs. Ninì, one of the few female climbers of her time, captures their climbs with a 16mm film camera, providing a unique visual record of their lives together.
The film also touches on personal tragedy, as the couple welcomes their son Lorenzo in 1937, only for Gabriele to die in a mountain fall in 1938. Following this event, Ninì steps back from extreme climbing to focus on motherhood. The narrative is further enriched when Lorenzo discovers hidden film reels in 2000, revealing the couple's shared history and their alpine adventures, offering a moving look at love, loss, and legacy.
