Synopsis

Lucy presents a theory about the origins of humanity, claiming that the first humans were mothers. She argues that mothers built nests to secure their children when they became too heavy to carry, leading to the invention of houses. Lucy also suggests that they used their voices to penetrate dense branches, which led to the development of language. In a reflective moment, she questions how society allowed itself to become so disconnected from these roots. Directed by Helke Sander, this 62-minute documentary was released in 1999.
