Hassan Fazili, a filmmaker from Kabul, fled Afghanistan in 2015 after receiving threats from the Taliban. He left with his wife, Fatima Hussaini, and their two daughters. The family traveled through Iran and Turkey, enduring violence and hardship along the way. They documented their experiences on smartphones as they sought asylum in Europe. After spending 475 days in Serbia and facing detention in Hungary, they were granted refugee status in the EU. In 2019, the film received a Peabody Award after airing on PBS.
