Synopsis

Mai, a high school exchange student from Hanoi, arrives in rural Mississippi for a year-long program. As she navigates her new environment, her perceptions of freedom, America, and Vietnam shift dramatically. The film captures her experiences in a small town, contrasting her cosmopolitan upbringing with the realities of life in the American South. Through interactions with her host family and classmates, Mai confronts her beliefs and identity against the backdrop of cultural differences and personal growth.
