Synopsis
In the women's prison in Sliven, Bulgarian mothers sing "Nani-na, sleep tight" to their babies, echoing a tradition that transcends the prison walls. Director Binka Zhelyazkova presents the true stories of these prisoners in "Lullaby," a documentary made in 1982. The film was banned upon release, along with her other work, "Lice i opako." Both films were screened publicly for the first time in 1989, after the fall of the socialist regime. Zhelyazkova did not make any films after 1990, following her disillusionment with the authorities.
