Synopsis

Lucy Castle lives in the village of Hoteni, Maramureş, Romania. At 26, she conducts research for her PhD thesis in ethnographic music. Her life changes when she marries John Hotea, a 22-year-old orphan known for his struggles with violence and alcoholism. Despite facing disapproval from the community, Lucy embraces her new life. The film presents their relationship and the cultural differences between Lucy's academic work and John's traditional peasant lifestyle, as they reflect on their experiences after moving to England.
