King Rocker is a documentary about singer Robert Lloyd and his bands, The Prefects and The Nightingales. Directed by Michael Cumming and written by Stewart Lee, it features interviews and performances, along with archival footage. The film premiered at the 2020 Sheffield Doc/Fest and later aired on Sky Arts on February 6, 2021.
The documentary includes appearances by notable figures such as Frank Skinner, Kevin Eldon, and Marc Riley. It also features archive footage of John Peel and Ted Chippington, who performed with Lloyd on the British children's program Razzmatazz in 1986. The film was produced by James Nicholls, known for his work on The Ballad of Shirley Collins, and includes a statue of King Kong by Nicholas Monro.
