Ishi's Return

Synopsis

Ishi emerged from the wilderness in Oroville, California, in 1911, becoming known as the "last wild Indian." He lived in the modern world until his death in 1916. After his passing, the Smithsonian Institution received his brain, which remained there for decades. In the 1990s, Ishi's descendants campaigned for the return of his remains. Their efforts culminated in the repatriation of Ishi's remains to his ancestral home, marking a significant moment in the fight for indigenous rights.
