Synopsis

Newtown, a suburb near Birmingham, faces severe economic decline, with 50 percent unemployment and deteriorating living conditions. Residents inhabit poorly furnished tower blocks, often reduced to watching television as their only form of entertainment. Chris Pond from the Low Pay Unit attributes the community's struggles to the Conservative Government's free market policies.
