Synopsis

Hartley's assistant works in Berlin while he is in Amsterdam, corresponding weekly through letters. Dutch composer Louis Andriessen's opera, 'La commedia,' is the focus of their collaboration. Hartley shares his artistic vision and challenges, while his assistant sends books and materials to aid the production. The film captures their communication and the effort involved in staging this contemporary opera. It runs for 28 minutes and was directed by Hal Hartley in 2010.
