A lone rider traverses the empty expanse of the imaginary state of Illiyeen. This black and white film, created by filmmaker Nanna Rebekka and visual artist Eliyah Mesayer, presents a meditation on identity and belonging. The term ‘Illiyeen’ originates from Bedouin culture, referring to a celestial record of righteous deeds. In this context, it transforms into an allegorical space that transcends geographical and national boundaries, representing a ‘state of nowhere and nation of everywhere.’
