More than 100,000 dolphins are killed annually worldwide, with significant numbers in Japan, the Faroe Islands, and West Africa. In Ghana, approximately 10,000 dolphins are slaughtered each year despite legal protections established in 1971. In the Saloum Delta of Senegal, the critically endangered Atlantic humpback dolphin is the focus of a conservation program aimed at monitoring their behavior and raising awareness among local communities. With fewer than 3,000 individuals remaining, efforts to protect these marine mammals are crucial for their survival.
